I went to habitat for humanity and bought a large square overhead lighting box, something that would have been in a early 90s house in a kitchen. It was about $5, Then I just installed LED strips inside of it and mounted it to the roof of my softbox. Works pretty well. For anyone who doesn't have tools involved here, the lighting section at Habitat for Humanity is really great for building some DIY lighting projects/experiments on the super cheap.

maybe for V2 shift every second row of led stripe like so: - _ - _ - _ - to get an even more evenly illuminated surface
